The walls of the vaginal canal contain transverse skin folds called rugae. The substances that provide lubrication during intercourse are secreted from between these rugae, and the rugae create a textured surface during friction; during childbirth they allow the vagina to expand like an accordion, making the baby's delivery possible.

Why Does the Vagina Lose Its Structure?
With advancing age, weight fluctuations and vaginal deliveries, these rugae can sometimes fade away. The vagina loses its original structure and effectively becomes a smooth tube. Patients then see a doctor with complaints of vaginal laxity. In fact, many patients do not even know that this problem can be treated, and experience sexual difficulties with their partner. The patient loses her self-confidence, and because the resulting stress also reduces vaginal lubrication, intercourse can become unbearable. In some patients, sounds come from the vagina during intercourse, creating further self-consciousness. Constant dampness and odor develop in the underwear. In advanced stages the bladder or rectum can actually prolapse through the vagina, leading to urinary incontinence, constipation and friction-related irritation.
What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation is the collective name for the procedures performed to restore a structurally changed vagina to its former state; in other words, to rebuild it.
For vaginal rejuvenation we use a fractional CO2 laser.
Vaginal Rejuvenation with Fractional Laser
With the fractional laser, our aim is to renew the vaginal tissue, restore its textured structure, regulate the vagina's secretory function and increase the pleasure felt during intercourse; in short, to return the vagina to its youthful state.
The fractional laser is applied directly to the vagina. This stimulates fibroblast production and increases collagen. As a result of these cellular changes, the vaginal tissue is renewed, becomes sensitive and capable of healthy secretion, and tightens.
These changes in the vagina become noticeable after 3 weeks. After the second session the effect increases exponentially, reaching its maximum by the end of the second month.
The Procedure and Aftercare
Vaginal rejuvenation poses no harm to your health. It can be repeated at intervals of 6-12 months.
Fractional laser vaginal rejuvenation is a painless procedure that takes about 15 minutes and can be performed in an office setting. No anesthesia is needed. Patients return to their normal life immediately afterwards. No medication is required, and patients may bathe as usual. During this period there may be an increase in discharge due to the renewal of the vaginal tissue; this discharge is normal. Intercourse is restricted for 7 days after the laser procedure.
The fractional laser does tighten the vagina, but our primary goal is not tightening; it is to increase vaginal sensitivity, the pleasure felt during intercourse, and the tone (tension) of the vagina.
