First, I would like to explain the principles of lasers and laser treatment to make the subject easier to understand.

What Is a Laser and How Does It Affect Tissue?

A laser is a form of energy. The energy, generated with the help of mirrors, is transmitted through the laser arm and delivered to the tissue. In fractional lasers, this energy is delivered to the tissue in fractions, that is, in small portions.

So why do we apply these beams to the tissue? Because they create micron-sized channels in the tissue (skin, vagina, etc.). The body perceives these channels as damage and sends fibroblasts to the area to repair it. Fibroblasts support the formation of new collagen and renew the epithelial cells in the tissue. In skin applications, the results include firming, rejuvenation, lightening of tone, and a reduction in wrinkles and stretch marks. In vaginal applications, we see renewal of the vaginal mucosa, new collagen formation in the submucosa and connective tissue, firming and tightening. All laser treatments work on this principle.

At our clinic we use fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser technology.

Now that we understand how the laser works, let us move on to the procedure itself.

How Is Laser Vaginal Tightening Performed?

For mild to moderate vaginal laxity, we prefer the laser method over vaginal tightening surgery.

Laser vaginal tightening is a quick, painless, low-risk and simple procedure; it can even be done during a lunch break.

The procedure is performed as follows:

First, we position you on the examination table and place a sterile speculum in the vagina. We apply a local anesthetic cream inside the vagina and on the outer lips, then wait 10-15 minutes.

Once the local anesthetic has taken effect, we position you on the table again and reinsert a sterile speculum. We dry the inside of the vagina with dry gauze and clear away vaginal secretions. We then place the laser device's own speculum in the vagina and introduce the laser probe. We scan the vagina through a full 360 degrees, advancing clockwise through the 12, 1, 2, 3 and 4 o'clock positions.

If the laser treatment is being performed solely for urinary incontinence, we scan only the 10, 11, 12, 1 and 2 o'clock positions.

Laser vaginal tightening requires no fasting, no fluid restriction, no interruption of your medications and no general anesthesia. With the local anesthetic, virtually no pain is felt.

The procedure takes about 10-15 minutes. There is no pain afterwards, and no need to place a tampon in the vagina. It involves no bleeding and no stitches. After laser vaginal tightening, you can carry on with your daily life.

Aftercare and Results

After laser vaginal tightening, intercourse is avoided for 7 days. During this time the vagina renews itself. Dark-colored discharge and spotting-type bleeding are normal.

The effect of laser vaginal tightening begins to appear 3 weeks after the first session. For the best result, a second session is performed 3-4 weeks after the first.

Laser vaginal tightening reaches its full effect 2 months after the first application. The male partner feels the increased resistance in the vagina, while the female partner feels the tightening.

Beyond the tightening itself, the main effect is an increase in the pleasure felt during intercourse, thanks to the renewal of the vaginal mucosa. Excessive vaginal wetness returns to normal, and vaginal dryness caused by atrophy also improves.

Laser vaginal tightening causes you no harm, and sessions can be repeated on request.

No medication is needed after the procedure. However, if the treatment was performed for atrophic vaginitis, estrogen-containing creams are prescribed afterwards.

In summary, laser vaginal tightening is a painless, quick procedure that tightens the vagina without the need for surgery and increases the pleasure women experience in their intimate lives. Performed under local anesthesia, it carries a low risk of complications, and you can return to your daily routine immediately afterwards. Avoiding intercourse for a short period is recommended, and the effects appear within a few weeks. Laser vaginal tightening can be used for a variety of purposes, and sessions can be repeated when needed.
